Private Waters: Streams and Ponds
Fly fishing private waters, streams and ponds has always been part of fly fishing heritage. From
the Poconos to streams in Europe this was part of the beginnings of fly fishing. The streams in the US are
small waters and are non navigable which means in they are allowed to be privately owned. We are not
talking about people who lease an area next to river or large stream and try to post it. This is not what this
type of fishing is about (Photo Below shows a Wild Brown Trout Caught and Released from Gene's
Private Stream).
Most of these streams and ponds have been private for many years. Some are private club
water. But the streams I take you on are private streams with mainly wild trout populations. The fish can be
difficult some days but fishing unencumbered by other anglers throwing pikie minnows and bait rigs over your head
while you are trying to approach a trout is more than worth what you pay to fish these
streams (Photo below shows a picturesque private stream with harbors wild
fish).
These streams are fly fishing only and catch and release. The one particular stream is where
I am the river keeper and I have access to over 2 1/4 miles of water. As always I furnish most of what you
need including equipment. You can sign up for a day or two or even more. I can arrange a
combination of spring creek fishing, private stream and trophy brook trout fishing for 3 or more days of fishing
(Photo below shows large brookie I caught during the Quill Gordon Hatch on my Private
Waters) if you are interested.
At any given time like any stream these days you could run into some decent hatches. Last
year I happen to hit the Quill Gordon (Eperous) for a few days. As on most streams that have a Quill
Gordon you need to be there when it's on because it only lasts a short duration and is usually spotty. But I hit it
just right for 3 days and I can honestly say it was the best action I ever had on the Quill Gordon on any
stream. They took the nymph like I had never seen and it was a most enjoyable and rewarding
(Photo below shows huge female wild brown trout from private waters caught by
Gene Macri).
So if you are interested in fishing some of my private waters please feel free to contact me.
It's worth your time to fish these beautiful waters. (Please note these fish were not harmed; the
water was removed digitally to show the fish)
